Worth the work.
This innovative mental health initiative promotes open conversations, reduces stigma, and connects the community with resources through interviews, stories, and culturally specific support.
A little messy.
The striking visual of splattering paint over a hidden message of hope took a lot of experimentation, practice, and preparation. We used up a lot of scrap cardboard and paint getting this right, and the KGW parking lot still bears the colorful scars of that effort.
On filming days, I spent a few minutes with each interview subject to give them a brief painting lesson and a few practice throws. Most had very little confidence in their artistic ability, but in the end each produced a work of art.
